Morocco promotion in USA as a tourist destination was was at the core of a press conference held by the regional tourism council of Grand Casablanca( CRT) and the American Society of Travel Agencies (ASTA: www. http://www.astaade.org/) on february 25 at Kenzi Tower Casablanaca in the presence of moroccan tourism industry professionals and national media.
In the presence of Said Mouhid, CRT Casablanca, General Director,the press breifing was conducted by Zane B. Kerby, ASTA’s president, to present ASTA Destination Expo (ADE) Morocco 2015 which starts thursday februray 26 until march 1.
According to Zane B. Kerby, more the 300 american travel agencies representatives will take part in this big event. The choice of Morocco and the captivating city of Marrakech were dictated by the exceptional wealth, contrasts and diversity the Kingdom can offer to the american visitors in terms of culture, History, geography, human relations as well as gastronomy.
So ASTA has chosen Marrakech to highlit the red city as well as Morocco as a tourism must destination for the amercican clients and therefore Marrakech is perceived in a broder perspective of discovery of the many facets and aspects of the moroccan tourist product.
« We read more and more press articles in the american media dedicated to Morocco» underlined Zane B. Kerby adding that 42 per cent of the US customers buy their trip through travel agencies and that 9 out of 10 are more motivated by the descovery of the gastronomy rather than by cultural considerations.
In this respect, Morocco has a trump card to play as the culinary art of the kingdom is world famous, admired and sought for.
ASTA’S president revealed during the press conference that contrary to what is generally admitted, the average amercain tourist spends around $ 1,450 during his stay which lasts very often ten days.
ASTA forecasts on the moroccan market in terms of impact following this operation, are more than 7 percent, reported B. Kerby.
Meanwhile, the statistics are what they are and encourage to work, and to increase efforts. According to the different figures circulating, Egypt now receives some 360,000 US visitors per year, despite the political stability problems facing this country. At the same time, Morocco, a stable and peaceful country, only receives 160,000! This figure is disputed by a Moroccan tour operator present at the briefing, who says he is surprised by these figures, and according to him, the real number of US visitors traveling to Morocco does not exceed 40,000 .
Anyway, the 300 US tour operators have positively responded to ASTA for a busy and full of promises weekend in Marrakech. The prelude to this Casablanca getaway, orchestrated by Mouhid Said, CEO of CRT Grand Casablanca, allowed B. Kerby to set once again the values of Moroccan hospitality universally recognized. As a souvenir of this passage in the economic capital of the Kingdom, a plaque of Casablanca and a beautiful book about the city have been offered to him by the CRT.
